London, Jan 3 (ANI): Former Sussex captain and friend of English coach Peter Moores, Chris Adams, has said that solidarity is needed after the apparent rift between captain Kevin Pietersen and the coach, urging them to work together.
Now is not the time to make catastrophic changes to the England set-up by sacking the captain or coach with the Ashes only seven months away, The Telegraph quoted Adams, as saying.
This has come as a bit of a shock, admitted Adams, who spent 11 seasons with Moores as captain and coach at Sussex.
In terms of moving forward, England have an outstanding coach and an outstanding cricketer in Kevin Pietersen, who is learning how to be a captain by the day.
From my own perspective Peter is a good friend and, I believe, an outstanding coach. Kevin has shown what a fantastic player he is, but I'm slightly s! urprised that having spent so little time in the job, he appears to be concerned about certain things. he England and Wales Cricket Board have not commented on reports that Pietersen threatened to resign in protest at a perceived lack of support from Moores, especially over the refusal by the selectors to recall Michael Vaughan for the West Indies tour.
Adams, due to start his new job as Surrey's professional cricket manager at the Oval on Monday, was anxious not to become involved in the apparent England fallout between two highly ambitious people.
Hugh Morris, the ECB managing director, is due to mediate as soon as possible to defuse the situation, but yesterday Ladbrokes had already started offering odds on Moores' future - 3/1 against him stepping down before the first Ashes Test against Australia in July, the paper said. (ANI)
